Choppertown Nation - Online Community for Backyard Builders

Custom motorcycles, hot rods, skate, art, music, movies, whatever...

I'm speaking of the '76 750 Triumph unit that I'm re-building. What i paid for the entire bike (in stock form) was the amount the previous owner paid just to have the engine re-built!? Re-build means total re-build to me, not some half ass top end job.

Heres what HE got for his $$$:

-brand new .20 over pistons (with the rings jacked up)
-shitty valve job
-metal chunks (not shavings) in the cases
-years of carbon build up in the heads
-some new gaskets
-used the same worn out valve springs
-cylinders honed by a monkey with a piece of sandpaper(tapered, oversized)

I found all this as i tore everything apart. Could of been worse, but....

all I'm saying is "Be prepared when you buy a basket case!"

*(anyone out there know what the valve spring pressure should be for this engine? The manuals only give installed height) THANKS

Man I'm glad your doing it! I'm in the middle of mine and got deployed. So when I get back you can let me know how it goes!

Good luck on the rebuild. I know exactly what you're going through. I picked up 71 OIF last fall. You can see it on my photo album (POS w the Blue tank). It was the engine (minus several parts) and frame. I was lucky enough to be at a swap meet and the other parts starting showing up so I could atlest roll it into the bed of the truck and into my basement.
I'll send ya a pic of it next week on the progress. As I get to the head I'll let you know what I find out about the valve spring pressure.
Stay at it. Good luck.

The Choppertown Nation Meetup was amazing!
