What up choppertown nation.......Does anybody know or think I should run a chain tensioner on my 77 ironhead? I welded on a hardtail rear end and it just looks like the chain needs help. Im running juice brakes, and an o-ring chain.......I have not rode the bike yet but if I have to weld something up for the tensioner, then I want to do it now. Info or opinions would help!!!!! Does the chain whip around on you? On my triumph the chain is too long due to the bolt on rigid i have and the chain ripped up my rear fender and oil bag so a chain tensioner will help on if you have a chain guide?

If this is the bike and chain you are talking about I think it might not be a bad idea. The chain looks like it rides close to the cross bar kind of like mine. I find when adjusted I'm OK but any slack and the chain starts to sag and rub the cross bar. Or slap as the case is sometimes. I had to put a teflon piece on my bar to protect it due to the fact that after 500 miles or so if I don't adjust the chain I'm going to rub. Some times on the road it is just not something you can do or want to do. I am working on a sprung gear adjuster for mine as I am tired of having to adjust away the frame slap. I can't find a ready made one for a 630 chain. 530's are all over the place. Cycle X has them along with alot of others.
