Fun Times in the Florida Sun...

Being appointed the Judge....My bike was not in the Show...Just when I was making the rounds for picking the Winners...A friend (Big Tony) that works for Ocala H-D showed up....I ask for his help in making the choices...

I had already had in mind the Winners for each class...Tony looked over all the bikes in the Show and picked the same ones that I did...

He picked mine for Best of Show....Told him mine was not to be Judged, cause I felt that would not be the thing to do...

Best of show went to a 86 FXR that had alot of hand spun parts on it...

It had NOS and a Carl's Speed Shop Carb on a 98" Delkron Case EVO.
The owner bought it new...

That law began a couple years ago as an anti-sportbike bill by a legislator who got scared by a stunter wheelying past him on the turnpike.

And it included bike confiscation for 3rd offense (wheelie or excessive speed), and had language to address those guys' habits of folding their tags up out of sight.

But then, thanks to the impotent FL ABATE president (also the $50,000/yr lobbyist, who refuses to recognise sportbikers as riders, and claims to represent 95% of FLA riders while it's truly 5%) spent last year telling membership not to take action or contact legislators, that "the bill is dead".

But it passed, and became the current law everyone is crying over, since it is primarily being used to issue $1000+ fines for vertical tags

I started going to the Daytona bike week back in 93. Every year there has been more and more crap that they are coming up with. That is probably why Leesburg is drawing more and more every year. I don't have to worry about the loud muffler since I went with the Supertrapp muffler for performance. It is quiet. I may have to remove some of the restrictor plates and change out the jet to make it louder. 100 cubes I have plenty of power and speed...

I was at Bike week in 1986..The Daytona Police was giving out loud muffler tickets for bikes sitting on the curb not even runing..If they could stick there night stick in the pipe...You got a ticket taped to your tank.....Now is that ...B..S...or what.???

One more thing. I have been to bike week and no one harassed me with the horizontal mounting. Still on the left side but horizontal. The most current law that I found and printed up said that it must be read from left to right. I found nothing that says that it had to be centered on the middle of the fender. www.flsenate.gov/statutes/index.cfm, 316.2085. Although it states for the year 2008 there was nothing to access for the year 2009. Maybe with all there cuts in labor that they just did not get around to updating it.

I believe that they can! It is up to the individual to ensure that they comply with the law in their respective states. I changed my plate. Just turned it 90 degrees. Still on the left side. Those vertical plate holders have 4 bolts that run through them and turning it I only used 2 bolts and lock tight to mount it horizontally. After bike week I will ground the excess off and clean it up.
