I have to say Cliff is definately one of my favourites along with Flea and Les Claypool. But my altime favourite is without a doubt Justin Chancellor from Tool. His sound and playing style are so unique. Maybe it's because he's a pick player like myself ,that I like him so much.
I also play with a pick , about 85 % of the time.....
I had an injury to my right hand when i was a kid, although my right hand is fully functional i do have some permanent finger damage which affects my ability to play without the pick.
Later
I started playing guitar at 8 years old and picked up bass when I was about 30. Although I can play with my fingers, I must have been in the habbit of playing with a pick. I tried playing without a pick for awhile but being in a metal band at the time, I found my sound to be lacking in attack, no matter what powerful equipment I played through. The reason i started playing bass was because I smashed the tip of my ring finger on my playing hand, and actually played my first couple of months with 3 fingers. Lol. Now I use all my fingers but won't go back to guitar.... bass is where it's at!
I started on guitar as well at 10 years old. I "started" on the bass at 16 cause another member in our band was a better guitar player than me !! LOL Most of my favorite musicians were bass players anyway, so when i switched to the bass it actually had a more "natural" feel to me .
Then i switched back to guitar for a while, Then back to the bass and its been that way for the last 10 years. Have not been in a band for a while now as work and other stuff doesnt allow me the time to devote to it, Most of my playing at this time is jam sessions with some budds or just along with the stereo cranked up.........
