Best bass Ricky 4000 series got two a stereo and mono, the worst Hofner Viola what a useless piece of shit I bought a Tanglewood copy which is marginally better in the comparisons I have done with original Hofners but it is still crap and should/would have been consigned to the dustbin of history had Macca not favoured one in the early days and strangely still does.
Best bassists, Holy Trinity The Ox, Macca, and Lemmy[yeh I know he is more a rhythm guitarist but it was down to his Hawkwind track Time we left this world today that made me pick up a plank in the first place].

Slap is cool ! Les is the king of slap ! Robert Turello (spelling ?) of Metallica slaps the shit out of his bass too ! When he was with Suicidal Tendencies he played a little more funky !

Les Claypool, anyone? I'm not a huge slap bass fan, but him and Mark King (Level 42) are truly amazing. Look on youtube and check out Jonas Hellborg as well. Another great slap player is a Canadian player named Alain Caron.

You are correct, the "CS" designates the Chris Squire model and the 4001 S is the bass without binding. I sold mine in '99 and, just like you, I kick myself. Wtf was I thinking? I have an Ibanez now that I dropped EMGs into . The neck is very fast and playable, but I'm always on the prowl for a nice Jazz.

Hey Snake, welcome aboard. I bought my first Ricky in 1977, it was a '74 4001. It was black and white, just like Geddy's. I always dug his sound and Chris Squire from Yes who used a 4001S or CS , I can't remember ( it didn't have the binding on the edge ). Anyway, welcome.
