Choppertown Nation - Online Community for Backyard Builders

Custom motorcycles, hot rods, skate, art, music, movies, whatever...

This ride is sounding better every day. I had such a good time at the Bash this year I would like to just keep on riding into the sunset. Not everyone can be a GTP. In the last issue of The Horse George commented on whats wrong with the bike culture these days. (Just picked up the last issue at the swap last weekend) I agree! Hell, where did it all go?

After The Chop Meet Last year, Mary and I were riding off the mountain and I had a hypifiny, Why not just call everyone we know out to the dessert for a overnighter? Like it was before the Rolling Stones almost got there chips cashed in. One of the dry lakes in Johnson Valley would be a good place. Free and you can go shooting on the north side of the 247 with police permission. There's enough dry lake bed that I'm sure a few guys would show up just to have a bit of practice before Bonneville. I'm going to try and plan a ride to the dessert next year. This year is "The SLO Classic Motorcycle Rally" Ride to Pismo Beach. The dates are not etched in stone yet. The camping is ten dollars per day/night on the beach in the OHV area.

The Idea is to hook up in Santa Monica (for those of us leaving from the LA area) for a good breakfast before heading out. Were going up PCH to the 33. Then turning left on the 58 to finish up the ride with some squirly twisties before getting to Pismo Beach for overnight camping. The 33 has some good twisties as well.

So far it sounds like bikes with small gas tanks will have a problem making the trip up the backside. Still working on that. The only gas station in the middle of the route has been closed down now for some time. I'm thinking someone with a truck and gas would be a good way around that issue. Any suggestions are welcome. I don't know if my stock 79 sportie tank would make it yet but I'm going to find out this summer before the ride. Anyone want to go up before Oct for a overnighter let me know.

I did some playing around today on a banner for the ride. Just would make it easier to post about the ride on other boards, blogs, etc. Just a rough draft. I need to do something else but this is it for now.

I just want to ride my bike, have fun and not be hassled by the man!

CRAZY that you brought this up. Me and the boys were just talking about doing a trip to Pismo just the other day so we can recreate the end scene from On Any Sunday. Just a trip to get away, get some beach time, drink some booze, talk shit and pretty much ride as much as we can.

We were thinking around the end of August because it'll start to get chilly at night after that.
Right on Man,so this is your gig right?it's kinda funny me and the Vegas crew were just talkin about goin to pismo for the same reason.
We had just watched the You tube clip of Steve McQueen and his boys tearing it up in Pismo from the movie "On any Sunday"
Here is some pic's of me back in "77" riding my Yammy 100 & 250 in Pismo.......

Great pix!!!!! I had a camera back then that did it like that. Memories, the stuff life's made of..........
The Show (just a side event to the ride) is in October. The backside of the hills (4000ft) get hot as hell in the summer. Ive only rode them in the cold at night. I'm riding up before the SLO just to check it out, figure mileage between gas stops, and take some pix. If you guys dont want to head out in Oct let me know & I'll ride up with ya early to do what I have to do for the ride info. I should have a new stator or VR by then. LOL! I feel the need to hit up some twisties as fast as I can. Like a crack head needs a pipe! After Bash DTs....
