Custom motorcycles, hot rods, skate, art, music, movies, whatever...

so my buddy brought over his bike(1971 suzuki ts 90) that was given to him for free, it ran 6 months ago when his brother was riding it...now it won't start up...i took off the carb(mikuni) and cleaned it, was pretty clean to begin with..put new gas in it...he said his dad put a new spark plug in it 6 months ago...i had it started for around 5-10 seconds this morning a couple of times, but it seemed like it flooded out....being new to bikes i have no freaking clue what i am doing, so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its probably gonna be in the carb...I would double check to make sure all the bits are adjusted right, maybe the float is wrong? Also, I had a Yamaha XS350 once that wouldn't run despite a good carb cleaning, turned out the gaskets were shot, it was leaking, so I put in new gaskets and she ran...Well, better anyway.

I would have to look in a manual, its hard to find that info online. Maybe theres a Yamaha XS forum online somewhere you could ask somebody that knows the bike real well? I'm actually barely adequate with carbs myself....

are the carbs leaking at all? If so, make sure the floats are adjusted to spec. You can probably download a pdf of those carbs if you do a little bit of research on google. Also, make sure your pilot air screw is adjusted correctly. That is the the adjustment on the side of the carb. I would turn it all the way in and then back out 1 and a half turns. That should be pretty close to spec. If you are still having problems, take the carb completely apart and soak it for about 30 minutes in carb cleaner. Make sure you take out the main jet and nozzle. Blow air in all the holes and spray carb cleaner as well.
