yup thats the one but without the cop, broken glass, guns, flames and shit still thats life and the enfield was a great bike borrowed a 1340 for a month a few years ago and got it out of my system for a bit but i fancy a bobbed shovel next if i can find a doner cheap enough

claudio, hi  as a new member here. your thoughts on riding are so true, ive had el cheapo jawa's that cost me £25 which ive enjoyed riding just as much as some of my big japs and brits after 35 years of riding.

i'd never really wanted a newer harley, yearning after a 45 though having recently ridden a mates fxr which he reckons is the only harley which handles ive started to look round for one and they aint cheap!!

till then i;ll carry on enjoying my 500 bullet and my ural outfit.

A guy where I'm employed has entirely too much shit with the Harley-Davidson logo on it, shirts, hats, jackets, more shirts, etc.
I know he doesn't get it...!
i got a mate who even has the after shave
Yeah - Getting ready to ride - Putting on my unbuttoned flannel shirt, work pants and skate shoes.  This is all too much for me.  Posers!
Lay off the haterade. If old people want to cruise around on $30k Gold wings and Harleys I say let 'em. Hell I wish I could put as many miles on as some of the geezers.

If some dude wants to drop a ton of cash on a new H-D and has a hat and jacket and all the accessories, so what? Doesnt affect your ride. There is no perception out there, owning a motorcycle does not make you tough or cool. No different than wearing football jerseys or band shirts. Hell seems like 90% of the clothes people wear are advertising for something else.

I always wanted a Harley growing up, it really is an American icon. I bought one when I could finally afford it. Some people just pick the wrong time to buy one, make sure you have that disposable income that can support it. I never have looked back from buying either one of my Harleys.

Let people do what they want to do to make them happy. If it means wearing Harley Davidson aftershave then go do it. As long as it is not bugging me then who gives a flying shit. When someone starts impeding my ability to enjoy my life and ride then I will step in. If they beat my ass then I will concede to their point! :)
i wasnt havin a go at harleys, they are good source of parts just wondered why they buy them cover them with ride to live tat then dont bother to ride them i have mates who do zillions of miles on old harleys and feel the same way. the guy i bought my guzzi from got a harley and now doesnt know if he wants to keep it or not he is so put off by the hog thing he went to a hog rally and despite there being loads of people from the same chapter nobody seemed to have met before its the whole buy a lifestyle thing
Buy a lifestyle is definitely an issue. Not just HOG but many people think having a bike gives them entry into some club. And their impression of that club is internal. Certainly riding a bike puts you in a generic two way "brotherhood" but it does not make you a "brother". By definition, owning a Harley can make you a member of the Harley Owners Group (technically, although there are probably 'dues'). But what you want to belong to is a group of like minded riders, regardless of the rig. I know motorcycle 'clubs' that 'own' certain saloons, but I would never think that riding would make me welcome in that saloon or in their company. They choose their company. On the other hand, there are other places where you are welcome because you ride. But that doesn't mean we're all going to be friends or that I LIKE you because you ride.

But the bottom line, as Hami says, isn't OWNING, it's RIDING. And then it doesn't matter if you ride a Honda Rebel but dream of an Electra Glide, as long as you RIDE.

But at the end of the day, whether you ride, pose, buy or dream, it really doesn't affect me since no one would want me in their 'group' anyway. And I like it that way.

RIGHT ON REV,as groucho marx said i would'nt join any club that would have me as a member, we do about 30 motorcycle rallies a year ,we take 4 kids and a dog in 2 sidecar outfits to most of them, we put in a lot of miles the kids love it it is our lifestyle.we devote a lot of time keeping our bikes running and legal we have 2 outfits 2 solo bikes and a trike (wifes) and other bikes that i am building. if we didnt do all this shit we could afford to buy a flashy expensive bike to share but we would not be able to ride it for arguing whos turn it was, so we enjoy what we have and do what we do and have done since we were teenagers. not because its trendy or bad but because we enjoy the journey and the folk we meet along the way
The other possibility that no one has brought up is that maybe those bikes are the left overs from the upgrade. I know my dad used to have to have a new car every 3 or 4 years. I'm sure there are some well heeled riders who have to have a new bike every few years. Or maybe they all wanted to buy new Buells while there was still some left and the prices were good :)

I can never find used bikes at the Harley dealers. I don't think they like having them around. Too much chance someone will buy the used bike and avoid the new.

I'm trapped in the 70s so I'm really not part of the target audience for dealers and the moco anyway....

i dont care if you ride a kawasukionda or a 1911 tribsaton,i'll wave, nod or acknowlege any one on the road and i have found if im on me Harley (1942 WLA magnum) all will acknowlege me as well,
if on my ZZR1100 the ones who wont even admit to my existance on this planet are the ''HOG'' type (if there is a type) £20k 500 mile a year EVO riders, with dayglo jackets and a ''road captain'' and i'm sure at times a matron to handle the sore thumbs from doing up the leather thongs on there chaps.
to be honest, I'm just glad they ride EVOS and not Harleys.
i'd hate it if i was associated with that type of image victims.
couldn,t agree more pete, your wla looks nice i see you have some panther pics in your photos have you had one? the yorkshire god of thrift (earnshaw) made them to puzzle the uninitiated (wotthefekizzit) its better than a spagthorp whippet for confusing folk
