Choppertown Nation - Online Community for Backyard Builders

Custom motorcycles, hot rods, skate, art, music, movies, whatever...

I just bought a 57 Panster. It started out as a 57 XL and then 22 years ago a gentleman had it custom built around a panster engine. I am trying to figure out who the custom builder was and this is what I think is the trademark and it is in 5 places on the bike. I was told that the builder was out of California and that the panster engine was made in PA . The engine number is 57XL1787. If anyone has any info or lead on builder or where the panster engine really came from let me know. I am just showing the picture of the trademark. I know this is a long shot but who knows what you can find out.
The guy who originally had it built is no longer alive.

We are searching thru our old easy riders magz that we have but so far most of them are dated 93 and up so have not found yet and you said probably it was 1990. I have plenty of time to research since its snowing like a bitch here . We are working on finishing up some work we needed to do on our 69 triumph and then the panster is going on the lift so we can work on fixing her up.
Thanks so much!!
Roach , we got the bike on the lift today and really looked it over. In the first pictures I sent you it is dressed in black but we found the lipstick red underneath the chipped paint. I have a call and email into Easyrider and being the weekend I need to wait for info and I have been searching internet extensivley for history on this bike so far I cannot find anything . I would be so greatful if you have any futher information that might help me with my search. You have been a great help already and I really appreciate it. I found that lipstick red original picture on a indoneisia website and just so you know I have the original seat from that picture and the original handgrips that show in that picture so I am certain you are correct and it is the same bike. I cannot find any other pictures on the bike except on that indonesia blog site from way back. and it is on a poster with historic harleys.
Yeah, thats all I can add right now, good to hear the paint was under the black, the first owner was a femail, thats all I canremember, Pisano Publications will have the info you need....Also you can Ask over on the Jockey Journal board, I'm over there as well, some one has the mag with the bike in it...Roach.
Thanks again and yes I have been on the jocky journal site and I am to technically challenged to upload the damn pictures on that site. I will speak to someone at Pisano Publications today.
Give me a P.M. on the JJ and I'll tell ya how to upload pics on there....Roach.
Shoot low sherriff I am riding a shetland here...Expain P.M and I will send.
Roach, thanks to your help I found the August 1987 Easyrider Edition #170 and I am told the bike article called panster surprise is on page 30 and Mary Ward was the owner. I have ordered the magazine so I can read about it ! You were right Easyrider pisano publications looked it up online and it was the only 57 panster they had in their system.
