Choppertown Nation - Online Community for Backyard Builders

Custom motorcycles, hot rods, skate, art, music, movies, whatever...

I just bought a 57 Panster. It started out as a 57 XL and then 22 years ago a gentleman had it custom built around a panster engine. I am trying to figure out who the custom builder was and this is what I think is the trademark and it is in 5 places on the bike. I was told that the builder was out of California and that the panster engine was made in PA . The engine number is 57XL1787. If anyone has any info or lead on builder or where the panster engine really came from let me know. I am just showing the picture of the trademark. I know this is a long shot but who knows what you can find out.
The guy who originally had it built is no longer alive.

Thats just a take off of the yin/yang, And Trock did the topend, he just died, that bike is in EasyRider I think...Roach.
Roach thanks for the reply. I did have a nice conversation with Ron Trocks widow on the phone the other day and she is not sure the he built my engine but it is possiable . Do you have any clue on what issue of Easy rider the bike might have been in?

Regards, Angel
You will have to contack Pisano pub, they will know, But some time in about 1990? or there abouts, I read it when it came out, and Ron did the topend, not the whole motor....Roach.
Roach thanks for all your help! I will be researching this more per your information! I did get out on the panster today and still some work to do to bring it up to speed but I am thrilled!

Glad I could help, little though it was....Roach.
My husband and I were admiring your shovster bike ! Did you do your engine? Nice work !
I did that bike for a customer, 75 Ironhaed with 57-70 rocker boxes, not a shovster. I knew John Legroe who had a shovster he built and got in EasyRider's back in the early 80's, Talked to trock a couple of times, was going to do a Panster, but made a bigtwin instead, Now with Ron gone..........
It made an interesting looking bike. Still searching for Easyrider Archive and if you happen to come across it in the future just let me know. Thanks again.

I just found this and I am sure that is my bike. The seat and the grips i have in the box that came with the bike and lots of stuff on bike is same. If you can see this image is this the bike picture they had in easyrider that you were talking about? It is not the same color as they bike now but I think thats the one I just bought.
Hope this works.

Thats the one! The camcover and sprocket cover make and date the bike, the holes were ment to give it that "Bilit" look.

Nice bike and enjoy it, just remember that you cant get the RPM's that you can with the ironheads, the valve train wont do it, to much parasitic drag....Roach.
More on the 75, I wellded on the hardtail and relocated the seatpost, the tank was allready wellded on, I made the primary into a open drive becuase the Estart tab was brocken off!! So it is now kick only, the extra brakets on the primary were put on by the owner, and not how I told him to, He made it realy ugly!! But you can only do so much on a budget ya know!!!
